While you are at Purple Rain, you can choose how active (or not) you want to be. Perhaps you just want to relax on your veranda with a good book. Maybe you would like to have a massage in your room, or on the grounds - Merr will make you RELAX!
We are a five-minute walk to two beaches - Little Bay Beach and Homer’s Cove.
Little Bay Beach
Little Bay is a fishing village, and the beach is a vibrant place full of activity. You can relax in the sun, have a picnic, watch the fishermen come in with their catches, and eat the same fish freshly prepared for you in minutes, if you wish. There are a couple of social clubs right on the beach, where you can play dominoes, meet some locals and have a cool drink, and perhaps a bite to eat.

Homer's Cove / Brighton Beach
Homer’s Cove is a protected inlet on the border of Little Bay and Brighton, the next village. The water is very calm and stays shallow for a good distance, making it perfect for small children or sitting in the cool waters. If you would rather just sit in the shade under the sea grapes at the waters edge, perhaps you can watch the local fisherman bringing in their catches nearby.

Bat Cave / Mineral Baths
A visit to the Little Bay Bat Cave is a fascinating, perhaps even spiritual experience. There are several rooms to explore, examining the various elements of this intriguing place. This ancient cave has been used for centuries, and one can nearly feel the presence of the indigenous peoples of Jamaica. Some folks
celebrate full moons in a special way, with a candlelight meeting in the caves.

Your visit to the Bat Cave can be followed by a refreshing dip in the Mineral Bath if you wish. It is fed by a natural spring, and is constantly circulating lightly brackish water. It is incredibly refreshing and serene, but entering the cave bath does require reasonable physical ability. There is a rope for assistance, as well as your guide from Purple Rain.

Both locations are delightful examples, and you will likely find them to be an almost mystical experience. Many visitors have a special feeling in Little Bay, like Jamaica’s famous son, Bob Marley, who built a house here on the water, not far from the Mineral Bath. Sturdy athletic shoes are recommended for both locations.

Activities
There are many other activities in Little Bay that you may enjoy, including pole or spear-fishing, and snorkeling along the coral rock coast. Snorkel gear is available at Purple Rain, but if you scuba, please bring your own equipment. You may decide that a bike ride is more your speed, or a guided hike into the hills to see some local plantations, and the local flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for the famous Jamaican Streamer Tail Hummingbird, known locally as the Doctor Bird. You also might want to visit the Little Bay All Ages School.

Coral Cliff Caves
You can opt to take a boat ride or rent a kayak to explore the coastline. Heading in the direction of Negril, you can explore some breathtaking caves in the coral cliffs. A ride in the other direction brings you to Deserted Beach, where you are unlikely to see anyone at all. We are happy to arrange a picnic excursion to this private destination!
